Survivors of the recent airstrike on Jilli market in Borno State have said they were simply engaged in livestock trading when the incident occurred, describing the attack as sudden and shocking.
According to The PUNCH, the survivors spoke on Sunday after the strike, which reportedly hit the weekly market in Jilli village along the Borno–Yobe border on April 11, 2026. The operation was said to involve the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI alongside the Nigerian Army.

One of the survivors, Bulama Balo, claimed that several fighter jets took part in the operation, alleging that they struck the area in turns.
“Three jets came, sometimes three, sometimes two. They were interchanging. The first one came, dropped fire, the second one came and dropped its own too,” he said.
Balo also explained that after the incident, survivors fled to the nearby Maigumeri community for safety. He added that they later sought medical treatment at a general hospital, while some of the injured were referred to a teaching hospital for further care.
“Around 3 o’clock in the night after the incident, we went to Maigumeri and slept there. Around 9 o’clock this morning, we went to the General Hospital,” he said, adding that some victims were referred to a teaching hospital……See More
