Public Affairs Analyst Ayodele Adewale has defended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu following criticism from some Nigerians over her recent call for citizens to embrace small businesses such as selling amala, roasted corn and other entrepreneurial ventures as a way of boosting livelihoods.
Adewale made the remarks during an interview on TVC News, on Monday, 29 June, 2026, while reacting to the public backlash that greeted the First Lady’s comments. Many critics had argued that her advice did not adequately address the country’s economic challenges, prompting widespread debate on social media and other public platforms.
Speaking during the interview, the analyst argued that the First Lady’s comments had been misunderstood, insisting that her history of supporting education and youth development showed a long-standing commitment to empowering Nigerians rather than diminishing their concerns.
According to Adewale, Oluremi Tinubu has previously championed initiatives that positively impacted young people, particularly during her time in Lagos State.
“She also started a spelling B. It was highly competitive and that produced one day governor. I know some of those kids, some are in the oil and gas doing very well,” he said.
He maintained that the spelling competition created opportunities for students to showcase their academic abilities while inspiring them to pursue excellence in their careers. According to him, several beneficiaries of the initiative have gone on to achieve success in different professional fields.
