I Wanted To Be Famous Like Peller; TikToker Arrested For Posting Fake Bandit Video To Gain Fame

According to a report by P.M. NEWS on Wednesday, 27 May, 2026, a 25-year-old fashion designer and TikTok content creator has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly spreading panic through fabricated bandit attack videos.

Kowiu Oloyede confessed that he created the misleading clips purely to boost his social media following and achieve quick fame similar to popular Nigerian streamer Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller.

The incident occurred in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. On May 23, 2026, Oloyede recorded a video from his backyard, adding gunshot sound effects and claiming that bandits had invaded the community.

He posted the video on his TikTok account under the handle “Nice Boy” with the caption, “Bandit is in Atan, help us ooo.” The clip quickly went viral, causing fear and tension among residents.

His followers reportedly jumped from around 60 to over 1,000 within hours. Encouraged by the sudden attention, he attempted a second stunt by trying to stage a fake kidnapping video.

He allegedly approached a Fulani cattle rearer to participate, but the man refused.

During interrogation, Oloyede openly admitted his motive. “I saw that people were using the gunshots sound on TikTok to make videos and gain followers, so I decided to do the same,” he told police. “I felt that’s where Peller started from to become famous. I didn’t know it would put me into trouble.”

This case highlights the growing trend of content creators resorting to extreme and harmful tactics in pursuit of online popularity.

In a country already battling real banditry, kidnapping, and insecurity across several states, false alarms like this can trigger unnecessary panic, divert security resources, and erode public trust when genuine threats arise.

Ogun State Police Command tracked and arrested Oloyede following complaints from the public.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.

He faces possible charges under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act for spreading false information capable of causing public alarm…..See More
