According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has addressed concerns surrounding the method used in counting votes during the party’s presidential primary election.
The clarification followed the circulation of several videos from the exercise, which captured scenes of collation officers counting votes in a manner many viewers considered unusual.
In the clips, some officials appeared to skip figures while announcing results during the collation process, creating widespread reactions across social media platforms.
One of the most talked-about incidents emerged from Abia State during the collation process.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, was seen directing a collation officer to commence the counting exercise during the announcement of votes.
After being instructed to begin, the official reportedly started with the figure 11 before moving abruptly to 1,013, then 2,400 and later 7,000 while announcing the result.
The video quickly attracted public attention, with many questioning the credibility and accuracy of the process used in tallying votes during the primary election.
The development generated criticism from several quarters, as many Nigerians expressed concern over what they described as irregularities in the collation process.
The unusual sequence of figures announced in the viral video became one of the major talking points following the conduct of the primary election.
Responding to the controversy, Prof. Yilwatda maintained that the records available to the party regarding the Abia State exercise did not correspond with the figures being discussed in the circulating video clips.
He explained that the election was conducted at the ward level across the state.
According to him, the voting strength in the wards across Abia State does not support the figures announced in the viral footage.
He insisted that no single ward in the state had up to 7,000 registered voters participating in the exercise and stated that the party’s official data reflected a different outcome from what was portrayed online.
He said, “That’s the data we have. if you know, people can mimic counting at any point, people can do their drama, but I work with data……See More
