Speaking in an emotional interview, the United States-based Nigerian described the late Mathematics teacher as humble, dedicated and deeply committed to his family and profession before his abduction and killing in Oyo State.

Samuel said the tragedy had left the entire family traumatised, especially Michael’s wife, children and their 80-year-old elder brother.

“My brother’s beheading haunts me daily,” Samuel lamented while recalling the moment he saw the disturbing video allegedly showing the killing of his sibling.

Michael Oyedokun, a Vice Principal at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was reportedly abducted alongside others during an attack on schools in the area.

According to Samuel, he first learned of the incident through social media and immediately became alarmed after recognising his brother’s school in photos circulating online.

He explained that Michael, who was born on September 26, 1968, had dedicated most of his life to teaching after securing employment with the Oyo State Government.

Samuel said despite several efforts to encourage his brother to relocate abroad, Michael chose to remain in Nigeria because he was satisfied with his teaching career.

“He was content with life. He always told me he was okay in Nigeria,” he said.

The grieving brother disclosed that the family had expected the kidnappers to make contact and demand ransom, but no call ever came before news of Michael’s death surfaced.

He said the psychological impact of the tragedy had been devastating for the family, especially Michael’s two sons, who are currently sitting for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“If I close my eyes, I still see blood and the head of my brother being cut off,” he said tearfully.

Samuel also criticised the security situation in the country, questioning why authorities had yet to rescue other victims reportedly still being held by the kidnappers.

He called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to retrieve his brother’s body and rescue those still in captivity.

The grieving family member further urged authorities to explore all available strategies in tackling insecurity, saying Nigerians were losing confidence in the country’s safety.
