According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Friday, May 22, 2026, Mohsin Naqvi held fresh discussions in Tehran with Abbas Araghchi on Friday as diplomatic efforts continued to secure an agreement aimed at ending the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
According to reports from Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing proposals linked to indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Iranian media said Pakistan has continued acting as an intermediary between both sides as attempts intensify to establish a framework for a broader settlement.
ISNA news agency reported that Naqvi travelled to Tehran for the second time this week and delivered a new message from the United States to Iranian officials. The report stated that exchanges between Tehran and Washington through Pakistani mediation remain ongoing, although several major disagreements have not yet been resolved.
Pakistani sources cited by Iranian media also indicated that Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, could visit Tehran if progress is made toward finalising a proposed agreement framework.
Under a previously reported 14-point Iranian proposal, Tehran is seeking separate negotiations on its nuclear programme, including issues related to uranium enrichment, within 30 days after a permanent ceasefire is achieved. However, Washington reportedly insists that disputes surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities must be settled before any long-term ceasefire arrangement can be approved.
Regional tensions have remained high since the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran earlier this year. Tehran later responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several US allies in the Gulf region, while also restricting shipping movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
A temporary ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect on April 8, but talks held in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting settlement.
