A tragic and horrifying account has emerged of a 19-year-old boy, Friday, who lost his hand following alleged abuse at the hands of his stepmother. The ordeal, which has drawn national attention, reportedly began after his father left for Lagos, leaving him under the care of his stepmother.
In a recent video published by Lucky Udu Experience Friday recounted the harrowing sequence of events. According to his testimony, his stepmother accused him of practicing witchcraft and allegedly coerced a false confession by threatening him with a knife. She claimed that Friday had been molesting her in her dreams.
The abuse escalated when Friday was taken to an unidentified traditional healer. “The next morning, she told me to dress up, but I was already getting dressed for school. Then she said we were going somewhere. She didn’t tell me where. After that, she told my grandma to follow us. We took a taxi bus to a place. When we got there, we took an okada to a house,” he recalled.
At the herbalist’s location, Friday explained that the man used a shiny object on his hands before binding them. He was forced to sit under a blanket while burning charcoal laced with pepper was placed in front of him. Friday endured the acrid smoke and severe beatings for over an hour, all while being pressured to admit that he was a witch.
Despite his hands becoming severely swollen and blistered from the burns, his stepmother allegedly denied him medical care. Instead, she forced him to continue performing household chores, including washing plates and clothes, further worsening his condition.
Friday’s ordeal took a turn when a concerned stranger noticed his injuries while he was sent on an errand to buy kerosene. Initially instructed to lie about the source of the burns, claiming they came from hot water, Friday eventually revealed the truth to the stranger. The man promptly took him to the police, which led to the arrest of both his stepmother and grandmother.
Following the police intervention, Friday was transferred to Cedar Crest Hospital in Abuja, where doctors assessed the damage to his hand. Unfortunately, the injuries were too severe to be reversed. To prevent potentially fatal infections from spreading, doctors made the difficult decision to amputate his hand.
