A Nigerian human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has provided his account of events surrounding the alleged killing of a suspect by a police officer in Delta State, raising concerns over the handling of the incident and subsequent actions. Gwamnishu, founder of the Behind Bars Rights Foundation, spoke during an interview on News Central TV on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Gwamnishu described the events captured in a video recording. “Now from the video, you could see where the boy was even telling them that, somebody sent me, make I carry and go to the person, like he want to take them to the person in Sapele. From nowhere, the ASP shot at him twice. They now moved him into the Siena, took him to the area commander’s office. In the police station, he also shot him again, three times again. That was when he killed Ogenemine. This was what transpired,” he said.
He added that uncertainties remain regarding the origin of the weapon and those connected to it. “So nobody knows who sent Ogenemine to pick up the boy. Nobody knows who owns the gun that they found with Mine. Nobody knows. But this was what transpired on Sunday,” he stated.
Gwamnishu also addressed the circulation of the video and public reaction. “So when it happened, nobody posted it. Everywhere was silent. Like they were trying to hide everything. Somebody who was there, who videoed it, now forwarded it to me and now posted it on his Instagram page. I said, no, you can’t hide such thing. It’s not possible. This is cruel way to die,” he said.
He questioned the handling of the suspect and called for further inquiry: “Now, if this boy is the owner of that gun, that means he has somebody, he has people he’s working with. He would have let police to go and arrest more people. So why would police kill this young man? Possibly they want to cover up something. And that’s why we are protesting on the social media page.”
”And currently we are going to Warri to find out what’s really transpired. Why would policemen shoot somebody, kill somebody that they’ve not heard from? They’ve not even heard from me to know who owns the gun, the waybill he went to pick up from the park. This was what transpired,” he concluded……See More
