In Nigerian Constitution, Certificate Forgery Is Criminality To 14 Years In Prison; In The Electoral Act There In No Ground To Sue Anybody Who Forged His Or Her Certificate -Paul

Dr. Moses Paul, speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, criticized the current administration and described what he sees as the use of legal structures for political manipulation. He said laws that should protect fairness and justice are instead being applied in ways that create confusion and weaken accountability.

He specifically referred to certificate forgery, stating that such an offence is recognized as a criminal matter under Nigerian law and carries serious penalties, including prison terms.

Paul, however, argued that the Electoral Act does not provide clear grounds for challenging candidates who allegedly forged academic or professional certificates. He said this creates a contradiction between criminal law and electoral procedures, leaving important accountability questions unresolved during elections and public office contests.

In his words, “This present regime is dangerous because they are using the law as a tool for manipulation. I don’t know how best to put it. But it’s like today in the Nigerian constitution, certificate forgery is criminality to 14 years in prison, but today in the electoral act there is no even ground to sue anybody who forged his or her certificate.”…..See More
