According to a recent post by PM News on the 28th of April, the biographical film about Michael Jackson has taken the global box office by storm, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend ever for a biopic. Since its midweek debut on Wednesday, the movie has reportedly generated an impressive $217 million (£160 million) worldwide.
The film features Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, who steps into the role of the legendary performer. It traces the life, rise, and influence of the iconic entertainer widely known as the “King of Pop.”
Speaking on the film’s remarkable performance, Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate, highlighted the broad appeal driving its success. He noted that such strong earnings reflect massive turnout across different audience groups, adding that viewers are clearly enjoying the experience.
Despite its global success, the movie has not yet premiered in Japan. Its release there has been scheduled for June by the local distributor, meaning its overall earnings could still rise further once it opens in that market.
