According to Aljazeera News, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran is reviewing a negotiation request from U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that the overture stems from Washington’s failure to achieve its regional objectives.
The remarks follow reports of a cancelled visit to Pakistan by senior Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, a move Araghchi interprets as a sign of U.S. setbacks.
Speaking to domestic media on Sunday, Araghchi confirmed that a formal communication had been received. He suggested that the timing and nature of the American request expose a lack of strategic progress in U.S. policy toward the region.
According to the top Iranian diplomat, the cancellation of the high-level trip to Islamabad, intended to address bilateral and security issues illustrates Washington’s weakened position.
“Trump has made the request for negotiations because the U.S. has not achieved any of its objectives after cancelling a visit to Pakistan by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Araghchi said, directly linking the diplomatic shift to American policy failures.
While the minister acknowledged that Iran is looking into Trump’s proposal, he stopped short of setting a timeline or conditions for a potential response.
The development marks a rare, albeit cautious, engagement signal from Tehran toward the U.S. president, whose administration previously withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal and reimposed crippling sanctions.
Analysts note that Iran’s internal debate over direct talks remains deeply polarized. Meanwhile, no official comment has come from the U.S. side regarding the reported cancellation of the envoys’ visit or the alleged negotiation request……See More
