According to a report by Telegraph on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, has stated that the country is not engaged in initiating conflict but is acting in self-defense amid ongoing tensions.
Speaking in Geneva, Bahreini addressed questions regarding the duration of the conflict, saying responsibility for its continuation lies with the United States, which he described as the party that initiated hostilities. He emphasized that Iran’s position is defensive and rooted in protecting its sovereignty.
“We are not waging war; we are defending our country,” Bahreini said. “Defense has no endpoint. We will continue until the war is completely stopped and we are assured it will not happen again.”
He further noted that Iran’s defensive posture would remain in place until a full cessation of hostilities is achieved and credible guarantees are secured to prevent a recurrence of conflict. According to him, such assurances are essential to ensuring long-term stability.
Bahreini also highlighted the role of Iran’s armed forces and civilian population during the conflict, stating that both maintained sustained resistance throughout the escalation period. He said there was no reduction in the scale or intensity of defensive operations, even up to the point of a ceasefire.
The remarks come against the backdrop of heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation. International observers have continued to call for de-escalation and renewed dialogue, as concerns persist over the broader implications of the conflict.
Iran’s position, as outlined by its envoy, reflects a continued emphasis on self-defense while signaling that any lasting resolution will depend on firm guarantees and the complete end of hostilities…..See More
