Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has warned that civilians who support terrorist logistics on the frontlines risk being treated as military targets, as the armed forces work to protect their own troops in active combat zones.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, he said, “Part of the reason this crisis has continued is because we try to avoid collateral damage, except where it is absolutely unavoidable. You have seen the wars that are ongoing in some cases, terrorists will build their headquarters, command centres, even underground hospitals, within civilian structures. Ideally, a hospital should not be hit. But we have seen it happen in wars that are currently ongoing. So when you make yourself a legitimate military target, you will be hit, because the soldier wants to survive too.”
He stressed that soldiers in combat operate under an entirely different set of pressures compared to the insurgents they face.
He pointed out that a soldier who hesitates or misses his moment loses his life, while the other side fights with no fear of accountability or consequence.
