BAT Said, “We’ll Adopt An Intelligence Driven Security Approach” He Never Meant That -Odinkalu

Human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticised the Federal Government over what he described as unfulfilled promises on national security, following renewed attacks by armed groups in different parts of the country.

Odinkalu made his comments via his official X account, where he referenced commitments made during the 2023 election period, particularly assurances that a more proactive, intelligence-driven strategy would be adopted to address insecurity across Nigeria.

His remarks come against the backdrop of rising violence in several northern states, where bandit attacks have continued to claim lives, destroy communities, and disrupt economic activities.

The situation has sparked renewed concern among citizens and security analysts, who have called for more decisive intervention from authorities.

In a separate attack, a market in Yobe State was reportedly destroyed, while similar incidents have been recorded in other parts of the country, further heightening public anxiety.

Reacting to the worsening security situation, Odinkalu issued what he described as a reminder to the presidency about campaign promises made prior to the 2023 general elections.

He argued that Nigerians were assured of a security framework that would rely heavily on intelligence gathering and preventive measures rather than reactive responses.

According to him, the continued pattern of attacks suggests a disconnect between those promises and the current realities on the ground.

He expressed concern that despite repeated incidents involving significant loss of life, including members of the armed forces, the security situation has not shown meaningful improvement.
