The Yobe State Government has reacted to reports surrounding recent military air strikes in the North-East. It said the affected community, Jilli, is a known Boko Haram stronghold.
According to a report by Channels Television on Monday, April 13, 2026, the government made this clarification through the Security Adviser to the governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.). He spoke in a statement issued to journalists.
According to him, some reports had suggested that the incident happened in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State. But he said this was not correct.
He explained that the air operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI. The target, he said, was Jilli, a community in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
He added that the operation took place on Saturday, April 11.
The adviser, however, confirmed that some of the victims came from Geidam. He said they had travelled to Jilli for the weekly market.
He said the injured persons had been evacuated to Geidam Specialist Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director of Maiduguri Specialist Hospital, Dr. Shehu Mohammed, confirmed that 21 injured victims were brought to the facility. He said they were in stable condition but noted that some would require blood transfusions before surgery.
Residents have been urged to donate blood to support the victims.
Reports indicate that several people were feared killed in the incident. A source said a military jet was tracking suspected insurgents who allegedly moved to the market to collect levies before the strike occurred.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, also reacted. He described Jilli market as a hub used by insurgents and their logistics suppliers. He revealed that the state government had shut down the market five years ago.
The governor warned residents against aiding or harbouring Boko Haram members.
