After Nafiu Bala Resigned, They Said He Was Paid N2 Billion By APC To Say He Didn’t Resign-Nwokobia

Chris Nwokobia, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed concern over the controversy involving Nafiu Bala’s reported resignation and subsequent denial. Speaking in a video shared on Symfoni, Nwokobia described the situation as a troubling development for Nigeria’s opposition politics, noting that it has generated serious allegations and heightened anxiety about possible interference in party affairs.

Nwokobia explained that the sequence of events—beginning with Bala’s reported resignation and followed by his later insistence that he never stepped down—raises questions about the credibility and stability of the ADC as a viable opposition platform. According to him, the conflicting narratives risk weakening public confidence in the party at a time when strong opposition is considered essential for democratic balance.

He further noted that unverified claims of financial inducement have intensified the crisis. Although these allegations remain unproven, they have contributed to growing suspicion and political tension within and around the party’s leadership structure. Nwokobia emphasized that such developments, regardless of their accuracy, could damage the perception of integrity within the opposition space.

In his remarks, he stated: “A man resigned from his position because, according to him, he felt that the ADC should serve as a veritable platform for the coalition. And a few weeks after his signed resignation, the APC dos out money to him clearly. Some allegedly said he was given N2 billion, and he suddenly woke up and said, “I did not leave.” The papers are there, and no, I’m not in support of the David Mark-led executive and so in cahoots with INEC and the judiciary; the next direction is to destroy the ADC so we do not have a credible opposition.”
