If President Wanted Osun At All Cost, I’d Be There; And We’ll Win, Nothing The Governor Can Do -Wike

According to a report by TVC News, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said the Federal Government did not fully use its political influence during the recent Osun State governorship election.

Wike made the statement while discussing the outcome of the election and the possible role the Federal Government could have played if it had decided to use its full political strength to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the FCT minister, President Bola Tinubu could have won the Osun governorship election if he had been fully committed to securing victory regardless of the circumstances.

He said, “If the President wanted to win Osun State election at all cost, I would have been there and we will win it, and there’s nothing the governor can do.”

Wike explained that the Federal Government did not bring its full political influence to bear during the election.

He argued that the result could have been different if what he described as the full strength of the Federal Government had been deployed.

“There was no Federal might used in Osun. When you see the force and might of the Federal Government, you will know,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor also spoke about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his political journey.

Wike suggested that Adeleke could have ended up in the APC if certain political developments had gone differently.

His comment came after Adeleke secured another term as the governor of Osun State in the recently concluded governorship election.

The election had attracted attention from political parties and major political figures across the country, particularly because of its possible implications for the 2027 general elections.

Wike also turned his attention to the next presidential election, expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s chances of retaining power in 2027.

The FCT minister described the 2027 presidential election as one that could be less difficult for Tinubu than the 2023 election.

He based his position on what he described as the current condition of the opposition political parties.

He further argued that the opposition parties were not as strong as they were previously, claiming that their political structure had been seriously weakened ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike’s remarks therefore focused on two major issues: the outcome of the Osun governorship election and the political situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While discussing Osun, he maintained that the Federal Government did not deploy its full political influence during the poll.

He also suggested that President Tinubu could have secured victory if the government had decided to use all available political resources.

Wike expressed optimism about the President’s chances in 2027, arguing that the weakened state of the opposition could make the contest easier for Tinubu than the 2023 presidential election.
