The principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed why two teachers abducted alongside her, other staff, and pupils were killed by their captors.
According to a report by Punch on Monday, July 13, 2026, speaking after she and the other victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Oyo State Government House on Monday, Alamu said the kidnappers killed the teachers to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
According to her, the first teacher, identified as Michael, was killed on the second day after they were abducted. She added that the second teacher, identified as Deacon, was later killed on the first Sunday of June while the victims remained in captivity.
Alamu said the kidnappers believed the deaths would force the government to act because they knew their case had attracted widespread public attention across the country.
Despite the painful experience, she said there were moments when the victims believed they would all survive and regain their freedom. She also noted that many of the rescued victims still bear physical and emotional scars from their time in captivity but expressed hope that they would recover.
The school principal thanked everyone who contributed to the rescue operation, including the security agencies and government officials who worked to secure their release.
