Iranian Missile Attack Reportedly Damages Two Commercial Ships Near Strait Of Hormuz

According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 7, 2026, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reportedly launched at least two missiles at commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz overnight, according to reports by Axios and The Wall Street Journal. The incident allegedly caused major damage to two commercial ships, although no casualties were reported.

Axios, citing a US official, said both vessels sustained significant damage from the missile strikes but confirmed that everyone on board survived the attacks. At the time of reporting, US Central Command had not immediately responded to Reuters’ request for comment regarding the incident.

Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) disclosed that a tanker traveling southbound about 8 nautical miles (15 kilometers) east of Limah, Oman, was struck on its port side by an unidentified projectile. The impact ignited a fire aboard the vessel, prompting concern over the safety of shipping through the strategic waterway.

According to The Wall Street Journal, one of the targeted vessels appears to be Al Rekayyat, a liquefied natural gas tanker owned and operated by Nakilat, the shipping arm of Qatar’s LNG industry. The report said the vessel was hit on the port side near the upper section of the engine room.

The tanker was reportedly sailing near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman when the attack occurred. The strait remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global energy exports.

The reported attack comes shortly after indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded last week without any public indication of meaningful progress toward a long-term agreement. The discussions followed a 60-day ceasefire that was intended to create room for diplomacy after US and Israeli strikes triggered the recent conflict, but no lasting breakthrough has been announced……See More
