According to a video posted on JNS TV, on Monday July 6, 2026, U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee told a small gathering in Jerusalem that God, not the United States, decided long ago where Israel’s capital belongs.
The remarks came during a ceremony marking the signing of an agreement to permanently place the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, held on a plot of land along Hebron Road.
The event was hosted by Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, with Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion also in attendance.
Huckabee delivered a twenty-minute speech without notes, describing the moment as one he had waited his whole life to see.
JNS TV correspondent Josh Hasten, who was present at the ceremony, said the speech tied together the shared values between Israel and the United States, coming just one day before America’s 250th Independence Day celebration.
In his words, Ambassador Huckabee said, “I was so very proud that the president had come to make a declaration that I had longed to see for my whole life, and that is that we would finally and rightfully stand with Israel where God placed its capital.
“It’s not just that you made that decision. I would say God made that decision 3,800 years ago, and we finally got around to acknowledging what had been determined long before the United States of America came along.”
Huckabee added that the decision was permanent, comparing the coming embassy construction to setting a flag in concrete so it can never be moved.
