According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers, on Wednesday, 1 July, 2026, a parent of one of the students abducted during the recent attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, has revealed that at least 37 students have so far been officially registered as missing.

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard Newspapers, the parent, Mbula Bura, described the anguish families are facing as they continue searching for their children following the attack, which has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity and the safety of schools in the North-East.

Giving an update on the situation, Bura disclosed that authorities had invited parents who were unable to locate their children to register their names. According to him, the number of missing students has continued to rise as more families report that their children have not returned home.

“Parents who could not find their children were invited to come and register. I discovered that 37 names have been registered so far as missing. My 19-year-old daughter, Esther Mbula, is still missing. She is in SSS2,” he said.

His account underscores the emotional toll the attack has taken on affected families, many of whom remain uncertain about the whereabouts of their loved ones days after the incident.

The attack on the school has drawn widespread condemnation from residents and security observers, with renewed calls for stronger protection of schools in conflict-prone communities across Borno State.

Authorities have continued search and rescue efforts while security agencies intensify operations aimed at locating the abducted students and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
