Falana To Tinubu: Warn A Minister And A Former Governor That Are Currently Inciting People In Oyo

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent steps to address what he described as inflammatory political activities in Oyo State following recent tragic events that have affected residents of the state.

Falana made the appeal during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, June 5, 2026. He expressed concern over what he sees as the growing politicization of a sensitive situation at a time when communities are still dealing with grief and the impact of recent incidents.

According to the senior advocate, certain political figures have allegedly used the situation to advance political interests rather than promote peace and unity. He specifically urged President Tinubu to caution a serving minister and a former governor, whom he accused of making statements and engaging in actions that could further escalate tensions within the state.

Falana emphasized that public officials and political leaders have a responsibility to exercise restraint, especially during periods of crisis. He noted that individuals occupying positions of influence should be mindful of their words and actions, as these can significantly shape public reactions and perceptions.

The human rights lawyer warned against exploiting tragic events for political gain, arguing that such conduct undermines efforts aimed at healing affected communities and restoring public confidence. He stressed that moments of collective grief should be approached with compassion, responsibility, and a commitment to maintaining social harmony.

Furthermore, Falana stated that leadership requires placing the interests of the people above political rivalries. He maintained that political actors should focus on supporting victims and promoting stability rather than engaging in activities that may deepen divisions or create further unrest.

Reiterating his concerns, Falana called on the President to intervene and ensure that political stakeholders act responsibly in the interest of peace and national unity.

In his words, Falana said: “Please I want to tell the President, warn a minister and a former Governor that are currently inciting people in Oyo State, politicizing the tragedy of our people”.
