According to a report by The Times Of Israel on June 6, 2026, US President Donald Trump said Iran still retained about 21% to 22% of its missile stockpile during an interview with NBC News’s “Meet the Press.” He noted that although significant damage had been inflicted on Iran’s military infrastructure, the country still maintained limited operational capability.
Trump explained that multiple key facilities had been targeted and destroyed. “Most of the drone factories have been knocked out, most of the launching pads have been knocked out and most of the missile manufacturing areas have been knocked out,” he says. “But they still have capacity. They have some missiles, they have some drones. I would say percentage wise, maybe 21-22% of their missiles. It’s a lot of missiles, but it’s not what it was when we first attacked.”
He further argued that despite the pressure, Iran had not yet accepted a negotiated settlement. He claimed the country was under increasing strain and struggling with the consequences of the conflict.
Asked why Iran hasn’t yet agreed to a deal despite his claim they are “begging” for an agreement, he says, “it’s a very hard thing for them.”
“They’re strong, they’re proud, there are things that they never thought they’d be doing that they will have to do, they’ve got no choice,” Trump says. “Vietnam lasted 19 years, I’m into my third month.”
Trump also drew comparisons with historical conflicts, suggesting that prolonged wars often place heavy pressure on opposing sides to eventually negotiate. His comments come amid ongoing regional tensions and continued scrutiny of Iran’s remaining military strength.
