According to a report by the Punch on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, residents, parents, teachers, and civil society groups took part in widespread protests across Oyo State and parts of Ogun State following the continued abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. The demonstrations, which coincided with a nationwide action by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, led to the closure of public primary and secondary schools in Oyo State as stakeholders demanded urgent rescue operations and stronger security for schools.

During the protest, Ajibola Aboderin, one of the demonstrators, said the prolonged captivity of the victims had caused deep emotional pain for families and the wider public. He stressed that the situation had left many people in distress, especially as days turned into weeks without clear progress in securing the release of the abducted children and teachers. “We cannot imagine the pains and agonies of the kidnapped students and their teachers in the past 18 days,” he said, adding that the uncertainty surrounding their condition had intensified public anxiety and frustration.

He further explained that the protest was not only about expressing anger but also about drawing urgent attention from government authorities and security agencies. According to him, many families are living in fear and emotional trauma, constantly worried about the safety and survival of their loved ones in captivity.

Aboderin called on the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to intensify coordinated rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of the abductees without further delay. He also urged authorities to strengthen surveillance and protection around schools, especially in rural communities, noting that continuous attacks on educational institutions pose a serious threat to the future of children and the stability of society…..See More
