According to a video on Fox News, on Sunday May 31, 2026, President Donald Trump revealed that he personally identified and closed a critical loophole in Iran’s early negotiating position during current nuclear talks, securing a broader commitment from Tehran that covers both the development and the purchase of nuclear weapons.

The disclosure was one of the more detailed moments in a wide-ranging White House interview focused on the state of diplomatic relations with Iran.

Trump described the negotiating exchange as a moment that reflected the importance of scrutinizing the exact language offered at the table rather than accepting surface-level assurances.

In his words, President Trump said, “They originally said we will not develop a nuclear weapon, and I said what happens if you buy a nuclear weapon? So they said, now we will not develop them and we will not purchase a military nuclear weapon. That is a big difference.” he said.
