Yoruba Nollywood actress and producer Funmi Bank-Anthony, has shared a strange experience she had abroad.
She explained how a stranger’s fear of her movie roles turned into a painful real-life moment.
Speaking in an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Anthony recalled how the situation left her confused at first. She said she noticed the woman running away from her on multiple occasions.
At first, she did not think much about it. But things got clearer when they both went to make a payment at a counter. The woman saw Anthony standing in the queue and immediately left.
This time, Anthony decided to follow her and ask what was wrong. When she asked if the woman knew her, the woman said no. Anthony then asked why she kept running away.
The woman replied that she was scared of Anthony because she usually plays the role of a witch in movies. The woman explained that from watching those films, she had come to believe that Anthony is a real-life witch.
Anthony said she felt very sad at that moment. She tried to make the woman understand that everything seen in movies is just acting.
She told the woman that she is also a Christian and does not practice witchcraft. She further explained that the incantations and spiritual acts she performs on screen are only scripted lines, not real.
Despite her efforts, the woman remained fearful. Anthony ended by noting how hard it can be to separate movie characters from real people, especially for audiences abroad who take Nollywood stories very seriously.
Her words: “When I travelled abroad, I noticed a woman was running away from me. At first, I didn’t think much of it. But when we went to make payment at the counter, she saw me on the queue and immediately left. So I went to ask her if she knew me, and she said she did not. Then I asked what I had done to make her keep running away from me. She said she was scared of me because I usually play the role of a witch in the movies she had seen. As a result, she believe I’m a witch in real life. At that moment, I felt sad. I tried to explain to her that I am a Christian too. I told her that everything she saw me do in the movies was only make-believe, not real. I even explained that all the incantations were just scripted.”……See More
