Dele Momodu, a media entrepreneur and publisher, has condemned the harassment of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as reported by The Sun on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He maintains that Atiku should be treated with respect for his significant role in Peter Obi’s early political advancement by selecting him as a vice-presidential candidate.
Momodu articulated his stance in a post that was shared on X on Monday, asserting that it was unjust for Atiku to receive criticism from specific supporters of Obi, despite having selected him as his running colleague during the 2019 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party.
He suggested that such actions fail to recognize the significant contribution Atiku made to Obi’s national political exposure.
In a subsequent conversation on X Space, Momodu addressed the ongoing discussions regarding Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election.
In light of the results recorded in regions that are widely considered to be his strongholds, he questioned the assertions that the Labour Party candidate was denied victory.
He also looked at the broader realities of Nigerian politics, emphasizing the challenge of establishing widespread support, particularly in a nation characterized by regional diversity.
In his opinion, candidates from the southern region of the country cannot rely solely on the support of their region in order to achieve electoral success at the national level.
Momodu also defended Atiku’s ongoing political involvement, characterizing the former vice president as a figure with substantial experience, determination, and focus.
He observed that Atiku achieved the second position in the 2023 presidential election, which he attributed to his continued relevance and presence in the political arena.
In addition, he focused on the tone of political engagement in the country, advocating for more respectful interactions among supporters of various political figures.
He issued a warning regarding the increasing prevalence of obscenities and hostile exchanges on social media platforms, which included attacks against President Bola Tinubu.
“We must not behave in a manner that is indicative of thugs. I will not consent to the abuse of Tinubu on this platform.” He also stated that, “Expressing disparaging remarks about others is indicative of one’s character.”……See More
