According to a report by Fox News, on Sunday April 26, 2026, as regional tensions remain high, retired U.S. Navy Captain Chuck Nash suggests that internal pressures within Iran may be creating a precarious environment, potentially setting the stage for a civil war backed by a popular uprising.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, Nash detailed his assessment of the current power dynamics in Tehran following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the subsequent installation of his son.
According to Nash, the transition of leadership has left a vacuum that has fundamentally altered the state’s internal stability.
He identified three primary, competing entities currently shaping the Iranian landscape: the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the regular Iranian military, and the general population.
“Now that the Ayatollah Khamenei was killed and his son is put in his place, that has weakened that one element,” Nash stated.
“Then you’ve got the IRGC, and then you’ve got the people, and the people may have a card to play, and that is a widespread revolution with the regular Iranian army and the regular Iranian navy which are conscripted.”
