Former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has said the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari performed better than the current government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Amaechi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, April 17, 2026, where he spoke about governance, leadership and his political position ahead of future elections.
During the discussion, Amaechi compared the performance of the previous administration with that of the current government. “Was Buhari’s government better than this government? Of course it was. It’s better than President Tinubuu’s government,” he said.
The former minister also spoke about how he views his political identity compared to other political figures seeking leadership positions. “You see, the difference between me and all candidates mentioned here, for example, President Tinubu, I am the only National candidate and Nigerian candidate,” Amaechi said.
He stated that his political aspiration is not based on ethnic identity but on a broader national outlook. “I am neither Igbo, some are running as an Igbo candidate. Neither am I Hausa/Fulani, some are running as Hausa/Fulani. Saying vote for me because I am Hausa/Fulani,” he said.
Amaechi said his appeal to voters is based on what he described as a national identity. “I am saying vote for me because I am Nigerian,” he added.
He also referred to President Tinubu’s political base, stating that the president’s support is connected to his ethnic background. “President Tinubu is running because he is a Yoruba man,” Amaechi said.
Amaechi maintained that his political ambition is based on his belief that he understands the country’s challenges. “I am running as, look, I don’t care who else is running, I am running because I am a Nigerian candidate. Because I know the Nigerian problem and I can solve the Nigerian problem,” he said……See More
