In a recent interview on Arise TV, ADC chieftain Dele Momodu discussed zoning considerations and strategic calculations that political parties may adopt ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
In the interview, Momodu stated, “If you pick Atiku, he comes from the North-East, where APC currently has the Vice President.” He made this remark while analyzing how regional balance and political representation could influence electoral outcomes.
According to Momodu, the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as a candidate from the North-East presents strategic implications, especially given that the ruling party already maintains significant political presence in that region through the office of the Vice President. He suggested that such dynamics may affect voter behavior and party calculations.
Momodu explained that political strategy in Nigeria often involves assessing regional strengths, historical voting patterns, and the distribution of political offices. He noted that parties must carefully consider how candidates align with the broader electoral landscape in order to maximize their chances of success.
He further emphasized that opposition parties need to be deliberate in their approach, particularly when selecting candidates who can expand appeal beyond their regional base. According to him, electoral victory depends not only on individual popularity but also on how well a candidate can mobilize support across different geopolitical zones.
Momodu concluded by urging political actors to adopt a more analytical and strategic mindset, stressing that understanding regional dynamics and existing power structures will be crucial in shaping outcomes in the 2027 elections.
