Adewole Adebayo, SDP presidential candidate, has stated that he visited some of Nigeria’s most dangerous areas during his presidential campaign in 2022
Speaking in an interview with Nevon HQ, Adewole said he visited most of the major theatres of military operations. He said he visited Mubi LGA, where Boko Haram once had its headquarters, and spoke with people living in the LGA
Adebayo said that while traveling to Zamfara for a campaign, he arrived at a military checkpoint at night. He stated that a soldier there told him not to continue his journey because Boko Haram was ahead.
Adebayo said he asked why the soldiers could not escort him, but the soldier replied that nobody could pass through the area. He said he later sought the help of local vigilantes. He said the vigilantes chased the Boko Haram members away and he was able to continue his journey.
In Adebayo’s words: “When I was going to Zamfara to campaign, at night we got to a checkpoint where the soldier said, ‘Over there is Boko Haram, you can’t pass.’ I said what do we do? He said, ‘Everybody stops here.’ I said but you are Nigerian military, why would you not escort us? He said, ‘No, Nobody can go there’.
