Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has alleged that many of those who turn to banditry come from broken homes, and that parents must accept part of the blame for the growing security crisis in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels TV, Ganduje said, “Those who involve themselves in banditry, they are among us and they are from broken homes. So parents too have their own portion of blame. Because if parents were able to bring up their children in a good way, the issue of some people going into kidnapping, into banditry, into armed robbery may not be there,” he said.
Ganduje also called on religious leaders, both Muslim and Christian, as well as every Nigerian citizen to play their part in tackling the problem, stressing that the responsibility does not rest with government alone.
He also noted that he had convened a gathering of Islamic scholars in Kano that same weekend to pray for peace and national stability.
Beyond prayers, Ganduje urged religious leaders to actively explore the relationship between faith and governance, faith and peacebuilding, and faith and socio-economic development, so that religion becomes a tool for progress rather than a weapon for political manipulation……See More
