Those Who Placed Advertisement For PMB’s Birthday, Could Not Place It On His Death Anniversary -Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has reflected on the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying political power is temporary and that many relationships built around office often fade after a leader leaves power.

In a post on his X account, Sani observed that about 99 percent of the people who used to publish newspaper advertisements to celebrate Buhari’s birthday while he was in office did not do the same to mark one year since his death. He added that a similar situation was seen after the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

According to Sani, many people who appear close to leaders are often more loyal to the office they hold than to the individual holding it. He said friends of the throne are sometimes mistaken for friends of the king, describing it as one of life’s realities.

Buhari died in London on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. He was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, and Nigeria observed a period of national mourning following his death.

His first death anniversary was marked on July 13, 2026, with prayer sessions and remembrance events organised by family members, associates and supporters to honour his life and years of public service.

In his words, “Ninety-nine percent of those who placed advertisements for late President Buhari’s Birthday when he was alive could not place it on the anniversary of his death. It was so with Yar’adua. That is life. Power is temporary. Friends of the throne have always been mistaken for friends of the King……See More
