A Warder Told Eanhoro In Prison”We Know You Can Disappear, Please Don’t Do It On Our Watch” -Ogukeyede

Jumoke Ogunkeyede, an activist, has spoken about when Chief Anthony Enahoro was imprisoned in 1963 along with Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In an interview on State Affairs show with Edmund Obilo, Ogunkeyede said while Enahoro was in prison, a false rumour began to spread that Enahoro had the ability to disappear. He stated that even Enahoro himself did not know how the rumour started.

Ogunkeyede said the head of the warders in Nigeria visited Enahoro in prison and pleaded with him not to disappear. He said the warder even prostrated and begged Enahoro, saying all the warders would get into serious trouble if he disappeared from prison under their watch.

Ogunkeyede said Enahoro used the situation to his advantage. He said Enahoro told the warders that if they truly did not want him to disappear, they should give him a comfortable room and good food. He added that the warders eventually agreed and provided everything Enahoro asked for

In Ogunkeyede’s words: “At a point in time Chief Enahoro did not know how that rumor started, the head of the warders in Nigeria would come and say, ‘We know you can disappear baba, but we are begging you please don’t disappear on our watch’. The head of the warder in Nigeria would come and prostrate and say ‘Baba please don’t disappear, we will get in trouble……See More
