Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi reacted to claims that he left the Labour Party and the ADC coalition because he was afraid of the party’s primary election.
In an interview with Nevon HQ on Monday, July 20, 2026, Peter Obi pointed out that the political class in the country has not learned the spirit of sacrificing its own ambition by presenting a worthy candidate. He stated that he was not afraid of the primary election and that his commitment is to serving the country, nothing more.
He contrasted primary elections with street football, which has no rules or system. He said he wants to play where there is a system. He added that playing on the biggest stage which is the general election, is what matters to him, and nothing else.
