Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed gratitude to security personnel involved in the rescue of the abducted Ogbomoso schoolchildren and their teachers, while paying tribute to officers who lost their lives during the operation.
Speaking to journalists during an interview aired on TVC News, on Saturday, 11 July, 2026 at the 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital in Ibadan after visiting the rescued victims, Makinde commended the bravery and sacrifice of the military and other security agencies that participated in the operation. He said the successful rescue came at a painful cost, as some personnel died while working to secure the victims’ freedom.
Makinde said, “We say thank you to our troops, the officers and men. We lost some officers and part of our troops as well. So all the families that have lost their loved ones in this whole process. We want to assure them that their loved ones did not die in vain. I’m extremely happy.”
The governor said the sacrifices made by the fallen security personnel would always be remembered, noting that their courage and commitment made it possible for the abducted schoolchildren and teachers to regain their freedom. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the state would continue to honour the memory of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
