One Of Them Said, Instead Of Being Embarrassed, Why Not Settle? I Said This Is Cheap Backmail -Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has described how some people allegedly attempted to blackmail him with a false story involving his son and a purported $2 million land deal.

Speaking during a media parley shared by TVC News, Wike said the incident showed how far some people could go to damage the reputation of public officials. He shared the story while expressing confidence in the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who has also faced allegations linked to an alleged fake agency.

According to Wike, the people behind the claim alleged that his son contacted him about getting land in Abuja and later received $2 million in cash at night.

He said the matter was reported to him by officials at the Presidential Villa, after which he directed his Chief Security Officer to have the suspect arrested.

Wike explained that investigators checked his son’s travel records with British Airways and found evidence that contradicted the allegation. He said the records showed his son was travelling at the time the money was allegedly handed over, making the story impossible.

The FCT minister said the suspects were skilled at creating false stories to pressure people into paying money.

He revealed that one of those involved advised him to quietly settle the matter to avoid embarrassment because of his position. However, Wike said he rejected the suggestion, describing it as cheap blackmail. He insisted he would not pay anyone over what he maintained was a false allegation.
