Why The Lagso-Calabar Coastal Highway Was Flooded’ -Tinubu’s Minister David Umahi Speaks Out

David Umahi, the minister for works and former governor of Ebonyi State has disclosed the reasons why the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway was affected by heavy flooding.

According to his statements which were shared by VANGUARD on Monday June 6th, 2026 he pointed out that residents of Lagos State dumped waste products indiscriminately.

The Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, it can be recalled, was constructed with billions of naira with the ministry for works describing the project as one of the standout projects of president Tinubu’s administration.

However, the project experienced a setback following heavy floodings, with several kilometers of the road submerged, hence, becoming inaccessible to commuters.

The minister for works, David Umahi, while on a tour on the road to assess the damages, blamed the Lagos State government for refusing to follow the state’s master plan for flooding.

He also blamed the residents for dumping refuse indiscriminately. The dumped refuse, according to David Umahi, blocked the drainages, hence, the flooding of the coastal highway.

“You can see the amount of refuse even on our way. You can see the indiscipline of Nigerians that carry refuse to block drainage channels.” He said.
