According to a recent video by With Chude on, Vusi Thembekwako has raised concerns over an incident during Nigeria’s 2023 elections, where some Yoruba voters reportedly prevented Igbo voters from casting their ballots, declaring, “This is our city.”

Thembekwako shared the account while responding to media personality Chude Jideonwo, who had spoken about his emotional connection to Lagos. Born and raised in the city for 39 years, Jideonwo recalled shedding tears upon seeing footage suggesting he did not belong.

Vusi Thembekwako revealed a difficult conversation with his Igbo best friend, who viewed himself as a visitor despite decades in Lagos. “I had to explain to him that at some point you can’t take the benefit of my choosing it as home and tell me that it’s not my home,” he said.

“It is my home by virtue of the emotional investment, and the financial, economic, and psychic investment.” The incident has reignited debates about ethnic identity and citizenship rights in Nigeria.
