Human rights activist and NDC House of Representatives aspirant Dickson Iroegbu has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a transactional politician and President Bola Tinubu as a paymaster. He claimed both men are friends and business partners and that those enabling Atiku, including Kenneth Okonkwo, are indirectly working for Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview on Mic on Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, Iroegbu was reacting to recent remarks Kenneth Okonkwo made against Peter Obi. He said people like Okonkwo who support Atiku should understand they are working for Atiku’s friend, Tinubu.
He insisted the whole world knows both Tinubu and Atiku are friends despite presenting themselves as political opponents. He alleged Tinubu could call Atiku aside, compensate him for campaign expenses, and ask him to step down and that anyone working for Atiku is effectively working for Tinubu and has joined hands with the oppressors.
When asked if Peter Obi was also working for Tinubu when he ran as Atiku’s running mate, Iroegbu said the situation was different because Tinubu was not on the ballot then.
He explained that the PDP had zoned its ticket to the North, leading to a contest between two Fulani candidates, and they chose Atiku as the better option over Buhari, whom he blamed for allowing insecurity to escalate.
He added that Tinubu has said he and Buhari are the same and has continued from where Buhari stopped. He said that the Tinubu administration has brought the country to its knees and people are struggling to eat.
On Okonkwo’s claim that Obi is not fit to be president, Iroegbu agreed Obi is not fit to align with corrupt people, arguing that the political environment only allows corrupt individuals to emerge as leaders.
He dismissed Okonkwo’s prediction that Obi cannot win in 2027, noting that in 2023 many doubted Obi could get 100,000 votes, yet he was credited with 6.1 million.
In his words, “Atiku has shown that he is a transactional politician and Tinubu is a paymaster, and so he can eventually call him aside and say, my guy, don’t worry. How much have you spent? I triple it. And he will go home and rest.”
“So, any of them working for Atiku, including Kenneth Okonkwo, they are all working for Tinubu, and the Nigerian people must know that these people have joined hands with the oppressors……See More
