According to a report by Kyiv Post on Saturday, May 30, 2026, ,Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the war in Ukraine is “nearing its end,” citing what he described as sustained battlefield advances by Russian forces, while also cautioning that no clear timeline can be set for the conclusion of active fighting.
Speaking on Friday, May 29, during a press briefing widely covered by Russian state media outlets including RIA Novosti and TASS, Putin said his assessment was based on an analysis of developments along the front line.
“I did not make this statement just for the sake of it, but based on an analysis of the situation on the battlefield,” he said. “Our troops are advancing in all directions. You can see this every day,” he added.
Despite the confident tone, the Russian leader also tempered expectations of an imminent end to hostilities, noting that forecasting precise timelines in a fluid combat environment remains difficult as military operations continue across multiple sectors.
The remarks came shortly after Putin’s visit to Central Asia, where analysts say Moscow’s diplomatic messaging faced mixed outcomes.
During talks in Astana, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reportedly resisted Russian pressure on several strategic issues, including maintaining diversified trade routes that reduce reliance on Russian transit corridors.
Kazakhstan also did not commit to Moscow’s reported expectations for expanded long-term labour arrangements involving Russian-speaking migrant workers, a policy seen by some analysts as aimed at offsetting domestic workforce shortages in Russia.
Following the regional tour, Putin used the same briefing to reiterate sharply worded positions on neighbouring countries, particularly Armenia.
According to regional reporting and analyst interpretations, Moscow has increased political and economic pressure on Yerevan, including warnings over potential changes to fuel pricing arrangements and Armenia’s participation in the Eurasian Economic Union, amid Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s efforts to deepen ties with the European Union ahead of the country’s June 7 elections…..See More
