Graham Demands Strong Action, Says Trump Should “Finish The Job” Over Iran’s “Provocative” Conduct

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, May 03, 2026, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has called on President Donald Trump to maintain a hardline stance toward Iran, warning that military action should not be ruled out if Tehran continues what he described as provocative behavior.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Graham said the United States must ensure freedom of navigation in key maritime routes and take decisive steps to restore the movement of global shipping. He stated that Washington should pursue “whatever combination of events is necessary to start the flow” of vessels through strategic waters.

Graham also referenced ongoing pressure on Iran’s maritime and energy infrastructure, arguing that current measures have already had an impact. He pointed to the Strait of Hormuz situation and said efforts to disrupt Iranian oil exports are part of a broader deterrence strategy.

“Between the blockade, which has been brilliantly executed, and letting Iran know that Kharg Island is in play, hopefully that will create some deterrence,” Graham said, referring to Iran’s key oil export facility.

He further urged a firmer U.S. response if diplomatic and economic pressure fails to change Tehran’s behavior. “If it doesn’t, we need to just stand up to Iran, don’t let them get away with blackmailing the world,” he added.

Graham’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, as debates continue within U.S. political circles over the balance between military deterrence, economic sanctions, and diplomatic engagement.

The comments also reflect ongoing discussions in Congress regarding U.S. strategy in the Middle East, particularly concerning maritime security, energy supply routes, and Iran’s regional influence.
