As per a report from Anadolu Agency on Monday, April 13, 2026, Iran’s judiciary has declared that cases of individuals charged with espionage or association with unfriendly foreign entities will now be handled according to wartime legal standards instead of normal judicial processes, until further notice.
The announcement was made by Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the Chief of Iran’s Judiciary, who stated that the nation is experiencing circumstances that necessitate special legal measures due to increased security issues.
Ejei mentioned that this decision illustrates what he refers to as a transition to wartime situations, which requires the judicial system to modify its approach towards critical national security matters.
“Our circumstances are entirely combat-ready and align with what is required during this war period,” he expressed.
He also noted that those suspected of espionage or working with enemies will face more stringent legal frameworks meant for extraordinary situations, rather than ordinary criminal laws.
The judiciary chief stressed that these regulations will stay in effect until further notice, suggesting that there is no schedule for returning to normal judicial processes for these types of cases.
