Emmanuel George, a Nigerian who attempted to migrate to Europe through the Sahara Desert, has recounted a horrifying experience during his journey, revealing that he and other migrants unknowingly drank from a well that contained a human corpse.
George shared the disturbing account during an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Sunday, 19 July, 2026 where he spoke about the dangers and harsh realities faced by migrants who rely on irregular routes across the Sahara Desert in search of better opportunities in Europe. He described the life-threatening conditions they endured and the shocking discoveries they made along the way.
Recalling one of the most traumatic moments of the journey, George said, “When they dropped us there, we saw a well there and we were drinking water. In the morning, we discovered a dead body inside that well.” He explained that the group had no choice but to drink from the well because they were severely dehydrated after spending long hours in the desert under extreme temperatures.
According to him, the realization that they had unknowingly consumed contaminated water left the migrants devastated and terrified.
