I Wasn’t Brought Up Wearing Hijab, Dad Wasn’t Like That; Mom Doesn’t Expose Hair I Wear Wigs -Hadizah Abubakar

Nollywood actress Hadizah Abubakar has opened up about her decision not to wear hijab or practice Islam in an overtly religious manner despite being from a Muslim family. She revealed that she was not brought up to be a religious fanatic and believes that one’s relationship with God is personal rather than something that needs to be displayed through external religious symbols or strict adherence to dress codes.

Speaking on the Talk-to-B podcast, Hadizah explained that while both her parents are Muslims from the same village, they never raised her to wear hijab or follow strict religious practices. She noted that her father was not the type to impose such requirements, and her family’s approach to religion was more moderate and personal rather than focused on outward displays of piety.

According to Hadizah, she has observed that many people who display overt religious symbols like hijabs and long clothing often engage in worse behavior than those who do not. She emphasized that she is not judging anyone but simply stating her observation that external religious displays do not necessarily correlate with genuine faith or good character. She maintains her relationship with God privately, saying prayers in her safe space without feeling the need to prove her faith to others through clothing or public displays.

Hadizah Abubakar said: “I’m not a religious fanatic. And I’ve always been one who believes that your relationship is between you and your God. I know. And um my dad wasn’t like that. Nobody does that in your family. No, my mom doesn’t expose her hair. Like me. Most times when I’m going to the market, I either wear wigs or tie a scarf or something……See More
