Bandits: We Do Mining Very Close To Them, We Know Each Other And We Go Close To Their Houses -Hamisu

Sani Hamisu, a miner and victim of terrorist and bandit attacks in Katsina State, has denied claims that miners sponsor bandits or receive support from them, insisting that although both groups operate in the same remote locations, there is no financial relationship between them.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, on Thursday, 9 July, 2026, Hamisu explained that miners often work in isolated areas where bandits have established their camps. According to him, years of operating in the same environment have made both groups familiar with one another, but he stressed that this should not be mistaken for partnership or sponsorship.

Describing the situation, Hamisu said, “We are doing our mining very close to them. We know each other to the extent that we used to go very close to their houses conducting our own businesses. But sincerely speaking, they are not sponsoring us and we are not sponsoring them.”

He maintained that miners are ordinary citizens trying to earn a living despite the security challenges in their communities.
