According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Monday July 6, 2026, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, has expressed confidence that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, will receive strong support across Nigeria, including in the core northern states, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Yunusa stated that the movement remains optimistic about the party’s chances in the next elections, according to him, the NDC is working to strengthen its structures across the country and position itself for success in both presidential and legislative contests.
He stated that party members and supporters are focused on expanding their reach in different states and building the grassroots support needed to compete effectively in 2027.
On Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president, Yunusa said the former Anambra State governor made the commitment out of respect for the long-standing North-South power-sharing arrangement that has shaped Nigerian politics over the years, he explained that Obi believes in maintaining political balance and stability within the country.
The Obidient Movement leader dismissed suggestions that Obi could lose the NDC presidential ticket, he maintained that the party had already settled the issue of its presidential candidate and that Obi’s position remained secure.
He expressed confidence that the strategy would produce positive results and predicted that many voters in the core North would support Obi and the NDC in the 2027 presidential election.
“Of course, it’s a continuous process. That’s why you see, when he was taking his Vice, Musa Kwankwaso was picked in order to make sure that we reach out to the core north. So, core North will vote for Peter Obi in 2027,” he said…..See More
