A young Nigerian identified as Emmanuel Walter has made an emotional appeal for help after revealing that he has been stranded in Cambodia for months, surviving on the streets without food, shelter, or the means to return home.
According to a report by Arise News, Walter, who is from Bayelsa State, is among a number of African nationals currently facing uncertainty in Cambodia following a directive from the country’s immigration authorities requiring affected foreigners to leave before June 15, 2026.
Recounting his ordeal, Walter explained that his troubles began after the death of his mother in Lagos. Struggling financially and without a stable place to stay, he came across a job advertisement on Telegram offering a customer service position in Asia with a promised monthly salary of between $1,000 and $1,200.
Hoping to improve his situation, he travelled to Cambodia. However, according to him, the reality was far different from what had been advertised.
He said: “I’m stranded in Cambodia, I’ve been sleeping on the streets and I have nothing to eat.”
Walter disclosed that he has been homeless since December and has spent approximately four months sleeping outdoors. He added that securing food has become a daily struggle, leaving him in a desperate condition.
According to him, he was subjected to harsh treatment after refusing to participate in activities he considered unethical. He claimed he was confined, denied wages for months, and repeatedly fined by those overseeing his work.
Walter further alleged that several other foreigners were transferred to different companies, with some having their phones confiscated, making it difficult for them to contact family members or seek assistance.
As the deadline for foreign nationals to leave Cambodia draws closer, Walter is appealing to the Nigerian government and relevant authorities for assistance, stating that his greatest need is a flight ticket that will enable him return home safely.
