Dr. Bashir Kurfi, a security analyst, has warned against negotiating with terrorist groups, citing the experience of Katsina State.
Speaking in an interview with TRUST TV on Friday June 5, 2026, Kurfi said Katsina State was among the first to adopt negotiations with armed groups, but the outcome was negative. He said insecurity worsened despite these efforts.
Kurfi also said the security situation in Katsina State remains severe, adding that many communities have become inaccessible due to ongoing insecurity. He noted that large parts of the state are affected by terrorist activities, disrupting movement, governance, and daily life.
He said,
“I am from Katsina. Katsina State is one of the first states that started negotiating with terrorists, and the consequence of that in our state now is basically disastrous. You can’t access most of the towns; more than 2/3 of the state is closed down as at today.”
