Delta State Senator Ned Nwoko has alleged that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori rejected his recommendations for commissioner appointments and council chairmanship nominations, and directed him to channel all such requests through former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa instead.
Speaking on Arise TV, Nwoko said, “I wanted to recommend the appointment of some commissioners, or nominate some council chairmen to be elected, but I was told I can’t. The governor told me I can’t do it and that I must defer to Okowa for everything, even including projects considered so important for our people.”
Nwoko also raised the issue of the Okpai power plant, a facility commissioned in 2005 that generates over 1,000 megawatts and supplies electricity to several states including Enugu, Anambra, and Kogi, as well as parts of Abuja yet leaves the surrounding local communities in complete darkness.
He said he took up the matter immediately after his election, moving a motion on the floor of the Senate that received full support, and securing the federal government’s agreement to partner with the state to fund a critical step-down transformer for the area.
According to him, when he approached Governor Oborevwori directly with the proposal and a clear breakdown of costs, the governor declined his request……..See More
